Nereida is from the underwater world of Penny People (they can be found everywhere, you know). As it's rather hard for her to stand on a penny, her home is a shadow box. She gave me the chance to try several new things, from her posed tail, to the jeweled sun, to the waves actually coming out of the frame.
Nereida is made entirely from embroidery floss and (very thin) wire. Her sparkling sea-green tail & body are covered in a mixture of two varying tones of micro-fine green glitter. Her long curly blond hair (highlighted by the sun, of course!) blows gently around her face. Mirrors send reflections dancing around her. Crested waves spill out of the frame.
Nereida measures about 1 inch tall
The marks on the ruler she is perched on each measure 1/8".
Note: Nereida is not removeable from her box (she would blow away!). The pictures above were taken before she was placed.
